EDUCATE
Educating the students that have been entrusted to me is something that I love and at the same time take very seriously. There are several things that I like to remember which help me to be the best teacher I can be for my students. One is always making my students feel happy in the classroom. I like the atmosphere to be a stress-free environment. Another important aspect for me is for my students to feel like people and not just someone who takes up a desk in the classroom. Lastly, to help my students become well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to society. I feel that all three of these aspects are important in educating a child.
One way I like my students to feel from the moment they step into my classroom is happy. If they are happy to come to my class I find they are comfortable and relaxed. That is the way it should be in the classroom, a place where they feel safe to speak and learn. Having this type of environment also invites students to share their ideas freely. Being in school myself, I know that when the classroom has a positive atmosphere, I feel more inclined to speak and eager to learn. I like my students to feel the same way.
Another aspect of teaching that is important to me is to always remember that my students are people. They are not just test scores or individuals with a student identification number. I look at each and every one of them as eager individuals who are ready to learn. Each student is so unique and full of his or her own ideas. I get excited to see how they will develop and grow over the school year. It is amazing at how much they will accomplish from the first day of school to the last. They even surprise themselves.
All students must learn the basics: Science, Reading, Writing, Math, and Social Studies because learning all of these subjects is crucial to being successful in life. Other than teaching all of the main subject areas, it is my responsibility in the one-year that I have them is to create a well-rounded, problem-solving citizen who can contribute to society. This gets accomplished by allowing my students to think for themselves and allowing them to discover for themselves. This can be done through hands-on activities, which allows them to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied and creates individual discovery.
Teaching is something that I absolutely love doing. I don’t believe I would be doing it for fifteen years if I felt otherwise. Therefore, helping my students succeed not only in my classroom but also as individuals who will one day be active citizens in our society is very important to me and is something that I don’t take lightly.
