FIELD TRIP TO RONALD REAGAN LIBRARY
Every year the 8th Grade Class goes on a Field Trip to the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley. The class gets broken up into three groups: Oval Office, Military, and Press. While in these groups they get presented with a situation and each group must come up with a plan of how they will handle a presented situation. As you can see in the photo on the left, one student becomes the President of the United States and is allowed to sit at the President's desk in the Oval Office. After the students work in their groups, they get to tour the museum and see artifacts from the life of Ronald Reagan. One thing they get to see is a piece of the Berlin Wall that is displayed at the museum.
JELL-O MOLDS
In Science, the students made Jell-O molds of an animal or plant cell. They first decided which cell they would like to create. They then had to decide which cell parts to display using items that were edible. They had to put these edible items into their Jell-O molds and label the cell parts. They presented these to the class and at the end were allowed to eat their cells.
SNOWBALL FIGHT FOR REVIEW
As a way to review for tests the students write 3 True/False statements on half sized sheets of paper. They then crumble them up and are placed into two teams. When told, they throw their snowballs to the opposing team. At the end of the snowball fight they are to pick up 3 snowballs from the floor. They get into their groups and answer the true/false statements. This adds fun to their review for an upcoming test.
ART-MICHELANGELO
In Art, while learning about the life and work of Michelangelo the students all brought in one bar of soap. To imagine what it would be like for Michelangelo to carve out of marble the students were to carve an object out of their soap.
